J.R. Clubb

Twenty-some years ago I went to film school to become a director. I became a photographer instead, which turned out to be directing with better margins.

I'm based in Sarnia, Ontario. I run Clubb Direction — a one-person headshot and video studio where I direct every session myself. No associates, no second shooters. If you book with me, I'm the one who shows up.

The direction part matters. Most people who book with me hate being photographed. They come in with a specific expression that isn't their face — you know the one. Twenty minutes in, most of them forget I'm there. That's the job.

When I'm not shooting, I write literary fiction on Substack. I live in Sarnia with my wife and two kids.
